I was Drugged as a Kid

It's true!  I was drugged!

But you know what, I am grateful for that!

"The other day, someone at a store in our town read that a Methamphetamine lab had been found in an old farmhouse in the adjoining county and he asked me a rhetorical question, “Why didn't we have a drug problem when you and I were growing up?”

I replied, I had a drug problem when I was young: I was drug to church on Sunday morning. I was drug to church for weddings and funerals. I was drug to family reunions and community socials no matter the weather.

I was drug by my ears when I was disrespectful to adults. I was also drug to the woodshed when I disobeyed my parents, told a lie, brought home a bad report card, did not speak with respect, spoke ill of the teacher or the preacher, or if I didn't put forth my best effort in everything that was asked of me.

I was drug to the kitchen sink to have my mouth washed out with soap if I uttered a profanity. I was drug out to pull weeds in mom's garden and flower beds and cockleburs out of dad's fields. I was drug to the homes of family, friends and neighbors to help out some poor soul who had no one to mow the yard, repair the clothesline, or chop some firewood, and, if my mother had even known that I took a single dime as a tip for this kindness, she would have drug me back to the woodshed.

Those drugs are still in my veins and they affect my behavior in everything I do, say or think. They are stronger than cocaine, crack, or heroin; and, if today's children had this kind of drug problem, America would be a better place.

God bless the parents who drugged us."    ~ Anonymous

Wishing more of our kids today were acquainted with this kind of drug!

Amen!!! It sounds like we must have been given the same drug. You
were very creative with your title and the first few lines, they were I catchers on the dashboard! So exciting to know someone benefited from my blog. :) Hope your Sunday is filled with rest.

Carolyn, I was "Drugged" too!

Now I don't feel so guilty for some of the dragging I seem to do with my kids.

Brilliant post-thank you so much for sharing it. I am sending a link straight to my mum and sisters!

Best wishes,
Natasha.

I was given a "drug problem" as a child, too!

And you're right - those lessons learned when you're young really stick with you.

I'm going to start praying that God "drugs" some more people into His Kingdom!

Have a wonderful Sunday.

GOD BLESS!

Very clever and well written! It looks like we were all drugged in one way or another.

I wanted to get back to you on the pan. I mistakenly said I found it at Sur La Table...it was from Williams Sonoma. Look under New Bakeware. It is the Fall Icon Cakelet Pan. Sorry for the error. I will clear it up in my next post...

XO,
Jane

The title of your post certainly caught my eye. I was also drugged as a child and though it wasn't always pleasant then, I'm grateful for it now.

I agree - my children need to be drugged these days.

Blessings,
Joan

Excellent! I missed some of those drugs but I lived during the time most of them where being dispensed. It was a good time to be growing up. Thanks for posting.

I think these were the good drugs. Wish we still had more of these and less of the ones that are out there now.
Thank you for sharing a delightful post.

I was given those same drugs...I didn't like it much then but I am so thankful now. Why are we so afraid to give kids those same drugs now? Might help the "me" generation a bit!

Hi Carolyn,

We seem to live in a time of enlightened liberality. A time when children are given latitude to make decisions for themselves when they aren't emotionally, spiritually or physically capable of making the right decision.

I don't look with admiration of the parent who's authority is challenged by their child. There is a difference between expression and respect; yet so few children understand this concept.

Blessings and peace.

Hi Carolyn,
Haven't seen you for a while so popping by to see how you are doing.
Good luck with your new job! Prayers!
And yes we were drug everywhere too! LOL

Oh Carolyn...

I have this very writeup and someday planned to use it myself. For all the things my parents didn't do right there are 10,000 they did do right and that makes up for everything in-between. They'll even tell you that.

I was drug to church...never kickin' or screamin'...but drug none the less. My dad whooped my be-hind :) and I've had my mouth washed out with soap. If I spoke disrespectfully to my mother...we'll I paid for it. The same is true for my hubby's family.

Now...when I raised my kids I wasn't as tough but still tough enough. Now my son is pushing 29 and he is SOOOOO grateful for his teachings. He is BECOMING before my eyes the man I married. It is a JOY to see!

I mailed your sweet cards on Saturday 1st Class Mail. You should have them this week! LMK, OK?

Thank you, sweets~
