Better than a Hallelujah! :D

Amy Grant's beautiful song "Better than a Hallelujah!" reminds me of my father.  He drank excessively and there were times after I became a teenager that I would try to talk to him ....at the right times, of course.  I wanted him to go to church and leave alcohol behind and get his heart right with God.  He would tell me that I was right.....but he had to "clean up his act first...he was too sinful now."  I would tell him, "Oh no, Dad, it doesn't work that way!  You go to Jesus and He will clean you up!  No sin is too dark that He will not accept you!"

May you today KNOW that our Father in heaven loves you just as you are....come to Him and He will make you whole!  I hope you have a chance to go to church this Sunday!  :)

Amy Grant's Better than a Hallelujah

God loves a lullaby
In a mothers tears in the dead of night

Better than a Hallelujah sometimes.

God loves a drunkards cry,
The soldiers plea not to let him die

Better than a Hallelujah sometimes.

We pour out our miseries
God just hears a melody

Beautiful the mess we are
The honest cries of breaking hearts

Are better than a Hallelujah

The woman holding on for life,
The dying man giving up the fight

Are better than a Hallelujah sometimes

The tears of shame for what's been done,
The silence when the words won't come

Are better than a Hallelujah sometimes.

We pour out our miseries
God just hears a melody

Beautiful the mess we are
The honest cries of breaking hearts

Are better than a Hallelujah

Better than a church bell ringing,
Better than a choir singing out, singing out.

We pour out our miseries
God just hears a melody

Beautiful the mess we are
The honest cries of breaking hearts

Are better than a Hallelujah

Repeat Chorus

I too was a child of alcohol and I feel my faith is stronger for it. Unfortunately food or gluttony is my big addiction and I have faith the Lord will help me with that too.

This is so true. My Dad drank excessively when I was growing up. He quit when his best friend and cousin who was his "drinking buddy" was killed in an auto accident when I was 11 years old. I was so happy that he quit drinking, but mother and i could never get him to go to church with us. He always said he was too busy. He never did find time. He died at age 85. This has been one of the saddest things in my life. As far as I know, he never gave his life to Christ. He didn't have time. So sad.
Thank you for sharing.
Blessings,
Charlotte

Wow! I have never heard this song. Can't listen to it now as the computer is in the same room where hubby is watching TV but I will come back and listen to it. I love the words and somehow I feel that God is the most pleased with me, not when I sin, but when I cry out to Him in my helplessness--which is what the song is saying I think--really makes me stop and think! Thank you!
